About this role, you will play a key part in maximising participation in the Census.

Job Description
  • You will connect stakeholders and members of the community in regional and remote areas to promote participation in the Census.
  • You will plan, coordinate and deliver Census engagement activities for assigned regions, including towns and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a record of engagement activities via the ABS Stakeholder Management System.
  • Develop, update and review engagement plans for your area of responsibility.
  • Promote participation in the Census through community visits, promotional activities and presentations.
  • Connect with the community, establish networks and maintain those relationships.
  • Work collaboratively with other Census and ABS staff, providing cultural considerations and area-level intelligence.
  • Gather support for the Census from Local Government and community organisations, as well as key service providers.
  • Provide in-field assistance when required for Census operational activities.
  • Maintain a safe working environment, including when working from home or travelling in remote areas.
  • Complete administration forms such as timesheets and other duties as directed.
  • Store Census promotional materials securely.
  • Provide regular updates to the Remote Operations Management team.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge in working with or advocating for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Ability to connect and engage with a range of service providers, communicate effectively, and develop strong working relationships.
  • Communicating sensitively and effectively to present information to both small and large groups or communities.
  • Capability to work independently, prioritise tasks with limited guidance, and make decisions independently.
  • Sound local area knowledge and the ability to read and navigate maps.
