Job Title: Senior Legal Operations Manager

The Senior Legal Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day oversight and management of our legal team based in Toowoomba. This key position supports the Legal Practice Director by providing high-quality legal advice and leading complex casework across various funded programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Casework Management: Provide expert legal guidance and oversee team operations, including casework approval, advice checking, and workload management.
  • Mentorship and Supervision: Mentor and supervise staff solicitors and volunteers, utilizing active matters as learning opportunities.
  • Nominated Person Responsibilities: Assume Nominated Person responsibilities and higher duties when necessary.
  • Risk Management and Compliance: Promote compliance, manage legal risk, and foster a positive team culture.
  • Representation: Represent the organization at stakeholder forums, legal partnerships, and networks.
  • Law Reform and Community Engagement: Lead law reform and community legal engagement activities aligning with the organization's vision, mission, and values.
The Ideal Candidate:

A strong candidate will have the ability to consider their work through the lens of client impact. They should hold an unrestricted Practising Certificate and possess relevant post-admission experience, including leading complex casework (preferably 5+ years).

  • Current eligibility for Blue and Yellow Cards (mandatory criminal history screening)
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, and developing legal staff and volunteers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive, adaptable, and collaborative leadership style
  • Ability to travel within the region as required to support remote offices and outreach clinics
  • The successful candidate will also bring professionalism, adaptability, and empathy, along with the ability to lead by example and contribute to a trauma-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive workplace.
