About the Role

This is a part-time position with a 14.5 hour per week schedule, lasting for 12 months.

The Bioresources facility is located on the Nguma-bada campus in Smithfield.

  • HEW Level 4 salary range: $70,755 - $75,162 per annum (pro rata)

This role is responsible for providing high-quality technical support and animal care to enable researchers and students to achieve outstanding academic and project outcomes across the University.

You will play a vital part in maintaining disease-free animal facilities, supporting research and teaching needs, and ensuring compliance with safety, hygiene, and welfare standards.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Deliver daily animal husbandry with care and attention, ensuring the health and welfare of genetically modified mice.
  2. Support researchers and students by delivering reliable technical assistance in line with procedures and standards.
  3. Maintain our teaching and research facilities safe, clean, and fully operational through effective maintenance, sterilisation, and waste management.
  4. Contribute to a positive safety culture by enhancing standard operating procedures, reporting hazards, and ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety standards.
About You

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience in animal facilities or research laboratories, with knowledge of relevant equipment and basic understanding of animal ethics and research processes.
  • Strong problem-solving and organisational skills, with the ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with a customer-focused approach.
  • Ability to avoid contact with mice, rats, snakes, or guinea pigs as pets or in other settings.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Australian Code of Practice for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes.
