Job Description

This is a specialist role responsible for ensuring compliance with Australian and New Zealand Work Health and Safety legislation and quality standards.

The successful candidate will contribute to the broader organisational culture of accountability, risk management, and continuous improvement.

About the Role

  • Ensure ZOLL Medical's operations in Australia meet the requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Cth) and relevant state/territory-based WHS laws.
  • Monitor changes in Australian legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards.
  • Liaise with government agencies, regulators, and external consultants to ensure alignment and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Australian Legal and Regulatory Compliance
  • Develop and implement a local WHS strategy that supports ZOLL Medical's commitment to creating a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Design, implement, and manage a WHS Management System.
  • Conduct and document risk assessments, safety audits, site inspections, and compliance monitoring.
WHS Strategy, Systems, and Operations
  • Manage and maintain a Quality Management System that supports compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and TGA expectations.
  • Write, update, and control QA documentation.
  • Conduct internal QA audits and oversee external audit preparedness.
Quality Assurance
  • Support the development and management of a comprehensive risk management framework for the Australian business.
  • Provide advice and support to senior managers to ensure they meet their legal duty of due diligence.
Risk Management, Governance & Manager Due Diligence
  • Promote a safety-first mindset and foster a culture of shared responsibility, continuous improvement, and proactive risk management.
  • Lead WHS committee participation or engagement forums.
Policy Development and Local Ownership
  • Write, maintain, and review all WHS and QA policies, manuals, and procedural documents used by Australian staff.
  • Maintain the Australian Policy Register.
Safety Culture & Continuous Improvement
  • Support ZOLL Medical's New Zealand operations in partnership with the NZ Manager.
  • Quality and safety frameworks implemented in New Zealand must meet the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (NZ) and align with NZS ISO 9001 and NZS ISO 13485 standards.
Ad-Hoc Responsibilities
  • Handle customer enquiries.
  • Process credit notes and authorisations.
  • Manage product returns.
  • Send quotes to customers.
  • Travel for work-related purposes.
  • Manage office supplies and stationery.
  • Assist in warehouse tasks when required.
  • Acceptance test AED units (AED+ & AED3).
  • Participate in function setups and social initiatives.

Requirements

  1. Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a WHS or QA function with Australian legislative experience.
  2. Proven understanding of WHS laws in Australia and related frameworks.
  3. Familiarity with quality standards including ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and TGA medical device compliance.
  4. Demonstrated experience writing and managing Australian WHS and QA documentation and systems.
  5. Strong incident investigation, risk management, and audit preparation capabilities.
  6. Ability to influence and educate senior leaders on their legal responsibilities and risk exposure under Australian law.
  7. Certificate IV WHS or equivalent required; formal audit or quality systems training highly desirable.
  8. Strong communication skills.
  9. Attention to detail.
  10. Flexibility.
