This is a highly skilled role that requires extensive expertise in ecological assessment and environmental approvals.

Job Description

We are seeking a senior ecologist or botanist to lead our team in delivering high-quality ecological surveys, impact assessments, and project proposals. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing multiple projects, providing expert advice on Victorian and Commonwealth biodiversity legislation, and supporting junior staff in fieldwork and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ecological Surveys and Impact Assessments: Design and lead delivery of ecological survey programs and impact assessments tailored to client needs.
  • Technical Reporting: Prepare high-quality technical reports, including ecological impact assessments, vegetation mapping, and offsets advice and strategy.
  • Team Leadership: Lead multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects.
  • Expert Advice: Provide expert advice on Victorian and Commonwealth biodiversity legislation.
  • Staff Development: Support junior staff in fieldwork, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Client Liaison: Liaise with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure project delivery aligns with client and regulator needs.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in botany, ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in ecological consulting or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Australian ecosystems.
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation and Victorian policy framework.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
