About the Role

As a key member of the team, you'll play a vital role in guiding client projects from start to finish. You'll provide robust technical and regulatory advice to help clients navigate requirements and develop practical, effective strategies to avoid or minimise environmental impacts.
You'll support projects by scoping work, scheduling and overseeing fieldwork, planning surveys, and working with a team of ecologists to gather site information and prepare high-quality reports to advise clients and satisfy regulatory authorities. Other key contributions include sharing your passion and knowledge of nature with our diverse team and contributing to nature-positive outcomes.
Key responsibilities of the role include :

- Technical expertise: With your comprehensive understanding of current environmental legislation and policy applicable in Victoria, as well as your up-to-date ecological expertise, you will support the planning and execution of assessments, providing advice and recommendations to clients to ensure project success;
- Client Relationship Management: You will build and manage effective client relationships, including the provision of advice and recommendations to meet their needs and foster long-term working relationships;
- Supporting and leading people: You will manage and mentor a small group of field-based ecologists, developing their professional skills and capabilities in undertaking surveys and associated reporting, while also guiding project teams of passionate ecologists to deliver great work;
- Living our culture and values: You'll contribute to our positive, supportive culture by leading with integrity, following key internal processes, and upholding our commitment to safety, quality, learning, and accountability.
What we're looking for
- Graduate qualifications (or higher) in ecology.
- Comprehensive experience in the design and implementation of ecological field assessments and the preparation and quality control of scientific reports.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive, collaborative approach to work, including the ability to juggle multiple priorities and projects.
- High-quality reporting and reviewing skills.
- Prior experience in team leadership.
- An understanding of the regulatory requirements relevant to ecology at local, state, and federal levels.
The following additional experience will be looked upon favourably :
- Candidates with a specialisation in reptiles, amphibians, and/or birds.
- Knowledge and experience in the requirements of ecological impact assessments at different levels of government.
Why join Nature Advisory?
- Diverse and friendly team of ecologists committed to a high standard of technical work and client service.
- Collaborative and supportive work environment.
- Attractive salary commensurate with skills and experience.
- Five weeks annual leave per annum.
- Two additional weeks unpaid leave.
- One day per annum volunteer leave.
- Hybrid working arrangements.
- Mentoring and options for career progression.
- Employee-owned organisation.
