Estimating Leadership Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Director of Estimation to lead our team in Brisbane, Melbourne, or Sydney office. This role combines traditional estimating with strategic leadership and client relationship development.

The successful candidate will have strong estimating experience and leadership qualities, as well as the ability to mentor junior estimators and drive excellence in project delivery.

  • Leadership & Oversight: Lead the end-to-end estimation process for construction projects, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with project goals.
  • Common ways of working and common data management: Drive a common way of working across our teams, including consistent capture of data to drive decision making.
  • Cost Estimation: Develop detailed cost estimates from conceptual estimating through to first principles covering materials, labour, equipment, and overheads using industry-standard tools and first principles pricing.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather accurate pricing and scope data.
  • Quality & Assurance: Lead internal and external estimate assurance reviews, due diligence, and maintain compliance with internal standards and procedures.
  • Technical Expertise: Interpret complex project documentation, quantify from design information, and structure estimates, bills of quantities, and materials.
  • Mentorship & Development: Provide guidance and support to junior estimators, fostering capability development within the team.
  • Continuous improvement: Maintain and enhance the central estimating database and norms, while staying current with market trends and cost factors.

Key Requirements

  • Work Rights & Location: Full current working rights for Australia.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in a Lead/Director-level role with estimating within transmission, mining, oil & gas, clean energy, or broader natural resources sectors; consultancy background is preferred.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled with Candy, Microsoft Excel, power BI, and Navisworks.
  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrated developing precision in cost estimates, technical reports, and project documentation.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to produce high-quality reports and bid documents.
  • Team & Independence: A collaborative team player who can also work autonomously and mentor junior team members.
  • Professional Attributes: Proactive, analytics, adaptable, and resilient, with high ethical standards and a commitment to delivering value to clients.
