Key Responsibilities

As a lactation consultant, your primary goal will be to protect and promote breastfeeding by educating women, families, health professionals, and the community about lactation and artificially feeding newborns, infants, and children.

This specialized service will cater to the needs of women and their families across the healthcare continuum.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing effective breastfeeding education programs
  • Providing individualized support to women with breastfeeding difficulties
  • Collaborating with healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need to possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • A relevant tertiary degree qualification
  • Appropriate registration/licences as a Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Registered Midwife (RM)
  • Current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification
  • A postgraduate qualification or current enrollment in a postgraduate program in a relevant area of study is highly desirable
