Electrical Systems Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced Electrical Systems Design Engineer to join our Water Group in Brisbane. In this role, you will play a key part in developing and designing electrical systems and networks for engineering projects in the Water Division.

About the Role

You will work under the general direction of the Water Infrastructure Group Leader and be responsible for a small team of Electrical Engineers. Your responsibilities will include performing electrical engineering design, conducting calculations, and analyzing electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform electrical engineering design, including modeling, engineering drawings, calculations, reports, and design criteria to support electrical engineering projects.
  • Conduct calculations to analyze and design electrical systems using company-standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Assist in evaluating and selecting electrical systems and materials, and developing electrical specifications.
  • Contribute to the development of electrical systems through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Assist in preparing engineering project documents, client presentations, client contact, and communication pertaining to specific project deliverables.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
  • Prepare electrical engineering documents by developing construction specifications, plans, and schedules.
  • Assist in reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to requests for information, preparing site observation reports, and performing other contract administration tasks.
  • Recognize and initiate appropriate corrective actions when technical problems arise.
  • Be available for onsite visits or project commissioning as required from time to time.
Requirements:
  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering with an emphasis on Electrical.
  • At least 10 years' experience in a similar position with well-rounded experience in Water and Wastewater projects.
  • Consultancy industry experience is beneficial.
  • Knowledge and experience in LV and MV power systems in Australia.
  • Experience with CAD and power engineering software tools.
  • Highly developed consulting skills to liaise with clients and other stakeholders to achieve mutually successful project outcomes.
  • Hold CPEng and RPEQ status.
  • Be willing to offer mentorship to junior engineers based on appropriate level of knowledge.
  • Have excellent people management skills.
