
Regulatory Leadership Position

The role of a Strategic Regulatory Leader involves providing leadership support to achieve regulatory outcomes in line with the department's business plan and strategic direction.
This includes influencing change, contributing to business planning and decision-making processes, and demonstrating innovative leadership skills. As a Strategic Regulatory Leader, you will be required to lead managers and teams in a regulatory environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and reviewing guidelines, work instructions, policy documents, industry notices, and other materials to ensure they align with the agency's strategic objectives.
- Contributing to legislative change through explanatory material and consequential implementation activities.
- Building regulatory capability and promoting regulatory uplift within the department by identifying and addressing gaps in policies and procedures.
- Undertaking strategic planning to meet business objectives and deliver departmental outcomes by developing and implementing effective strategies.
- Leading, developing, and supervising geographically dispersed teams to maintain or develop necessary policy expertise.
- Effectively communicating, liaising, negotiating with, and responding to internal and external stakeholders, and participating in committees and forums.
- Maintaining a well-developed understanding of relevant policy and regulatory frameworks to ensure that policies and procedures are up-to-date and compliant.
- Preparing and reviewing draft reports, decision briefs, Ministerial correspondence, and analytical reports for senior staff, senior executives, and Ministers.
This recruitment process aims to fill current vacancies across the Biosecurity Operations Division, including the Pathway Policy - Cargo and Conveyances Branch, the Pathway Policy - Travellers Mail and Imported Food Branch, and the Industry Partnerships and Engagement Section.
