Principal Mining Facilities Specialist

Job Description:

This role focuses on supporting our clients' tailings and mine waste management teams to ensure their facilities are safe. Compliance with the latest standards is critical for mining companies to demonstrate their commitment to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and for the Social License to Operate.

As a Principal Engineer, this role requires applying various tasks listed below but also expanding knowledge of all elements and disciplines required to design these facilities, such as hydrogeology, process, geochemistry, water, civil engineering, and social engagement.

The expectation of this role is that the candidate will fulfill the role of an Engineer of Record (EoR).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Civil/Geotechnical/Tailings dam design
  • Geotechnical analyses using various software packages
  • Understanding of tailing deposition modelling (Muk3D)
  • Geotechnical and environmental site characterisation
  • Development and management of instrumentation monitoring systems
  • Project/task management and proposal preparation support
  • Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or a related field (required)
  • Advanced degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or a related field (preferred)
  • Professional registration (preferred but not essential)
  • Engineer of Record (EoR) (required)
  • At least 8 years (10+ preferred) of directly relevant experience in a consulting environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience (required)
  • Knowledge of relevant geotechnical engineering software (required)
  • Knowledge of numerical modeling tools (preferred)
