The role of Data and AI Privacy Manager is a critical position in protecting Victoria's lands and waters. You will lead high standards of ethical conduct in AI system use, oversee privacy-by-design integration, and ensure responsible personal data handling.
This position requires expertise in data governance and privacy compliance, including building frameworks, reporting to regulators, advising on PIAs, managing breach response, and handling requests and complaints.
Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential for this role, as well as the ability to lead and collaborate effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and implement robust privacy frameworks across EPA Victoria, ensuring adherence to Victorian Information Privacy Principles under the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014.
- Lead development of privacy impact assessments (PIAs), data protection strategies, and AI governance protocols to secure, transparent, and community-aligned digital and data initiatives.
- Regularly report to senior executives on privacy operations, risks, and controls, supporting strategic priorities to prevent harm from pollution and waste.
- Foster a culture of integrity, build partnerships, and support transformation into a modern regulator in the new era of environmental protection.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in data governance and privacy compliance, including building frameworks, reporting to regulators, advising on PIAs, managing breach response, and handling requests and complaints.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including building direction, clarifying priorities, and responding proactively to strategic issues.
- Ability to systematically analyze evidence and provide authoritative advice on complex governance, audit, and risk management matters.
- International Association of Privacy Professionals certifications (CIPM/CIPT) are desirable.
