Job Description

The Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee is responsible for promoting good corporate governance within an organization. Established in 2007, the committee provides assurance to support its oversight responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and advise on compliance, risk management, fraud control, financial management, governance, implementation of strategic plans, delivery programs and strategies, service reviews.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Candidates must have recent and relevant experience in areas such as internal auditing, financial reporting, accounting, management control frameworks, internal financial controls, governance or business operations.

Essential Criteria:
  • Ability to read and understand financial statements and capacity to understand ethical requirements of government (including potential conflicts of interest).
  • Functional knowledge in areas such as risk management, performance management, human resources management, internal and external auditing, financial reporting, accounting, management control frameworks, internal financial controls, governance (including planning, reporting and oversight), or business operations.
  • Capacity to form independent judgments and willingness to constructively challenge/question management practices and information.
  • Professional, ethical approach to the exercise of duties and capacity to devote necessary time and effort to responsibilities of an independent member of an audit, risk, and improvement committee.
  • Preparedness to undertake any training on operation of audit, risk, and improvement committees recommended by chairperson based on assessment of skills, knowledge, and experience of independent member.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Extensive senior-level experience in governance and management of complex organizations, preferably local government.
  • Possession of a relevant professional qualification or membership.
