Job Overview

The classroom teacher plays a pivotal role in driving academic excellence and educational outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct teaching of groups of students and individual students;
  • Contributing to the development, implementation and evaluation of a curriculum area or other curriculum program within the school framework;
  • Undertaking various classroom teaching related duties as determined by the School Principal;
  • Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings; staff gatherings; camps and excursions;

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant curricula, including the ability to incorporate literacy and numeracy skills into teaching practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing high-impact teaching strategies guided by student learning principles, with evaluations focused on assessing student learning growth.
  • Demonstrated expertise in monitoring and assessing student learning progress. Demonstrated use of data to inform teaching approaches and provide feedback on student learning and achievement to students and parents.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community to support student learning, agency, well-being, and engagement.
  • Demonstrated behaviours and attitudes consistent with Department values. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning to improve teaching quality.

Classroom teachers focus on developing and delivering programs to achieve specific student outcomes. As educators gain experience, their contributions to the school program expand beyond the classroom setting.
