Occupational Therapist Role

The Occupational Therapist plays a pivotal role in enhancing or maintaining individuals' independence in various aspects of life. This encompasses evaluating, consulting, and treating clients to optimize their functional abilities.

This full-time permanent position involves working with diverse populations, including those limited by physical or psychological illness, neurological dysfunction, developmental delay, or the ageing process. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing referrals, assessing clients' functional capacity, providing therapy input to improve clients' independence, recommending assistive technology, facilitating home modifications, and educating clients on energy conservation, joint protection, falls prevention, and stress management.

In addition to possessing relevant qualifications and experience, the successful candidate will demonstrate well-developed oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as an understanding of quality management principles in a clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Client Assessment and Therapy: Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify clients' needs and develop effective therapy plans to enhance their functional abilities.
  • Referral Management: Manage internal and external referrals, ensuring timely and efficient allocation of resources.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment, communicating regularly with colleagues, clients, and carers to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with industry developments, best practices, and evidence-based research to continuously improve services and outcomes.
  • Clinical Governance: Ensure all services reflect best practice, adhering to established standards and protocols to maintain high-quality care.
Requirements:
  • Qualifications: Degree in Occupational Therapy, current registration with AHPRA, and membership or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Occupational Therapists, Queensland.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in occupational therapy, preferably in a community-based setting, with a strong focus on client-centered care and collaborative teamwork.
  • Skills: Excellent clinical knowledge, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work autonomously and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Certifications: Current National Police Certificate, First Aid and CPR Certification.
