The Role:

As the Director of Engineering for Airwallex's Global Infrastructure team, you will lead multiple feature teams, including Engineering Productivity, Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps, and SRE. Your technical expertise and passion for engineering are essential, but your leadership skills, product thinking, and business acumen set you apart. You will be accountable for the quality and timely delivery of various engineering streams. You will remove obstacles, provide context and guidance to your teams, and know when to escalate issues. In this role, you will collaborate with key stakeholders worldwide and manage engineers globally to define the technological vision for our business domain.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and manage high-performing engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
  2. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and technical growth.
  3. Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and improvement, driving technical excellence across the organization.
  4. Develop and implement strategies to improve engineering productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business outcomes and deliver value to our clients.

Requirements:

  1. 10+ years of experience in modern engineering practices, with a focus on Developer Tools, SRE, Cloud Infrastructure, Productivity, Continuous Integration, and Quality Engineering.
  2. Proven experience in people management, with a track record of leading high-performing teams.
  3. Strong computer science fundamentals, with proficiency in Java or Kotlin, Spring, and Spring Boot.
  4. Experience with high-volume distributed systems and architecture design.
  5. Preferred experience with GCP, but proficiency with AWS (EC2, RDS, ELB, CloudFront), Docker, and Kubernetes is also excellent.
  6. Experience managing a global team and collaborating with stakeholders worldwide.
  7. Previous experience in FinTech/Payments is advantageous.

This role will ideally be based in Singapore, but we are open to considering remote work arrangements for the right candidate.
