Job Overview

This role is responsible for leading a team in implementing biosecurity programs to prevent and respond to risks affecting Western Australia's agriculture, environment, and economy.

  • Lead a team in implementing biosecurity programs to prevent and respond to risks affecting WA's agriculture, environment, and economy.
  • Manage projects and emergency responses to ensure legislative compliance and maintain animal welfare and product integrity standards.
  • Coordinate surveillance and control of invasive species, investigate non-compliance, and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Provide expert advice and contribute to policy and operational improvements.
Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Biosecurity Program Management: Develop and implement effective biosecurity programs to prevent and respond to risks affecting WA's agriculture, environment, and economy.
  • Project Management: Manage projects and emergency responses to ensure legislative compliance and maintain animal welfare and product integrity standards.
  • Invasive Species Control: Coordinate surveillance and control of invasive species, investigate non-compliance, and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Expert Advice: Provide expert advice and contribute to policy and operational improvements.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., biological sciences, environmental science, veterinary medicine).
  • Experience in biosecurity with technical knowledge and support; regulatory and inspection activities to prevent or manage risk from pests affecting animals, plants, and terrestrial environments.
  • Well-developed knowledge of invasive plant and animal species that threaten the community, environment and economy.
  • Project management experience with strong interpersonal, negotiating, and communication skills to engage with various stakeholders.
