Job Summary

We are seeking a seasoned communications professional to lead our strategic communications efforts.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of securing high-impact media coverage and fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with the State and Federal Government, Political Offices, and key stakeholders
  • Drive success in advocacy strategy through proactive working relationships with media and timely responses to all media enquiries

About This Role

This is an exceptional opportunity for a communications expert to make a meaningful impact in governance and civic affairs. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of political acumen, media savvy, and relationship-building skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and maintain a positive image of the Council within the community, local organisations, the media, State and Federal Governments.

  2. Implement effective media engagement processes, fostering proactive working relationships with media and providing timely and accurate responses to all media enquiries.

  3. Establish and implement high-quality communication strategies and encourage community participation in the Local Government process.

  4. Develop and maintain strategic relationships with the State and Federal Government, Political Offices, and key stakeholders to advance Council's advocacy strategy.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this position, you will bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • A high level of experience in media relations or communications, public relations, and journalism.
  • Strong political acumen and experience within government or advocacy spheres.
  • A proven track record of high-impact media coverage and relationship-building within the Australian political landscape.
  • The ability to handle high-pressure situations and communicate publicly with media or large group situations.
