The Employment Specialist plays a pivotal role in the delivery of employment services to meet the diverse needs of prisoners.
This position will oversee employment initiatives that directly assist prisoners into employment, and facilitate collaboration with industry, social enterprise groups and support service agencies to provide long-term employment opportunities and support transition into the workforce.
The Employment Specialist has oversight of the employment portfolio which includes driving strategic development, planning and implementing systems that will deliver and monitor employment programs to prisoners.
Some key responsibilities include:
- Proactively developing and maintaining partnerships with organisations that deliver employment services for offenders in the community, and with employers committed to providing employment opportunities to offenders.
- Maintaining formal governance structures in support of established partnerships.
- Ensuring accurate, clear and appropriate communication with partners and internal stakeholders to ensure there is a common understanding of and commitment to jointly agreed initiatives.
- Supporting/coaching internal and/or partner staff to increasingly assume responsibility for maintenance of partnerships and partnership-related activities.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A demonstrated understanding of employment related service systems
- Knowledge of the employment sector at both State and Commonwealth levels
- A highly developed understanding of long term unemployed and marginalised clients
