Procurement and Contracting Officer Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Procurement and Contracting Officer to join our Canberra-based team.

  • This complex procurement role involves exercising sound decision-making and judgment to provide expert advice on the procurement function.
  • The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of legislative frameworks, government decision-making, and Defence's mission and procurement policy requirements.

In this challenging role, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, complying with, and reviewing procurement actions, policies, and procedures. You will also engage in complex problem-solving, deal with issues, and perform detailed or sensitive procurement actions that impact strategic, political, or operational outcomes for Defence.

You will contribute to the development, planning, and management of junior staff within your teams. This includes contributing to work plans, setting performance indicators, and reviewing performance. Additionally, you will be accountable for identifying relevant stakeholders' expectations and concerns to develop and communicate procurement methodologies or practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop, implement, and review procurement actions, policies, and procedures.
  2. Engage in complex problem-solving and issue resolution.
  3. Perform detailed or sensitive procurement actions that impact Defence's outcomes.
  4. Contribute to the development, planning, and management of junior staff.

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of legislative frameworks and government decision-making.
  • Familiarity with Defence's mission and procurement policy requirements.
  • Ability to exercise sound decision-making and judgment in complex procurement scenarios.
