Strategic Leadership Role

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic thinker to lead our Strategic Insights function. This role plays a pivotal part in setting our enterprise direction by leading the development of long-range strategy, delivering enterprise reporting, integrating performance intelligence and providing robust, system-level advice to guide agency decision-making.

About the Role:

The Director will lead the development and integration of our long-range enterprise strategy and planning frameworks. They will be responsible for delivery of high-quality internal and external reporting, including the Corporate Plan. Additionally, they will interpret complex data and policy signals and provide system-level advice to guide agency positioning.

Key Accountabilities:

• Interpret complex data and policy signals and provide system-level advice to guide agency positioning.
• Offer authoritative guidance on economic trends, and the feasibility and implications of strategic directions.
• Develop insights to inform strategic messaging and support the communication of our vision and outcomes.
• Establish and continuously improve enterprise performance measurement and evaluation frameworks.
• Provide strategic foresight through scenario modelling and risk-informed planning.
• Steward our insight ecosystem – connecting data holders, surfacing strategic questions and reducing duplication.
• Collaborate with internal teams and the academic community to publish research that contributes to policy debate and establishes us as a thought leader in regulation and financial services.
• Partner with agencies such as Treasury, Finance, and APSC to ensure we are positioned to respond to and influence national policy agendas.
• Represent us in external forums and participate in relevant communities of practice to ensure we remain informed of best practices in data analytics and economic modelling.
• Build strategic capability across the organisation by modelling analytical rigour, collaboration, and clear direction.
• Lead a high-performing, multi-disciplinary team with a shared commitment to integrity, evidence-based decision-making, and public service outcomes.
• Travel will be a requirement for the role.

Qualifications and Experience:

We are looking for a candidate with post-graduate qualifications in economics, strategy, data science, business administration or a related field. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in public sector strategy, performance reporting or regulatory reform. They will also have high-level critical thinking and policy modelling capabilities.
