Virtual Health Care Specialist

As a Virtual Health Care Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting Australians with their health concerns through the Healthdirect Helpline, also known as Nurse-on-Call in Victoria.

You will provide guidance to callers who are unsure if they should see a doctor or manage their condition at home. Your expertise can make a significant impact on the health and well-being of our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide health information and assess symptoms.
  • Recommend the appropriate time and place of care.
  • Refer callers to other services such as the GP Helpline, Urgent Care Clinics, and Virtual Emergency Departments.

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

Requirements
  • Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse for a minimum of 3 years.
  • At least 3 years of full-time (or equivalent) clinical experience within the last 5 years as a Registered Nurse.
  • A varied nursing background involving substantial public contact. Inclusive of, but not limited to complex primary health, acute medical, or emergency department settings.
  • Confidence in applying critical thinking and clinical judgment in high-pressure situations across all age groups and clinical presentations.
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal: ability to communicate with compassion and professionalism.
  • A high affinity with using computer systems, including telehealth platforms, databases, and digital communication tools.
  • Enjoy making a difference in a flexible, home-based environment.
  • Must be located within Australia.
Benefits
  • Part-time or full-time position available.
  • Flexible shifts with a minimum of 20 hours per week.
  • Operational hours: between 5 PM – 5 AM, Monday to Saturday.
