Director Science Strategy

The Director of Science Strategy is responsible for developing strategy and policy to support Defence's deliverables.

This role involves advising senior management on the capacity and capability of Defence to deliver scientific advice and innovative solutions, ensuring Defence's strategic direction aligns with broader Government objectives.

The ideal candidate will have high-level experience in leading and developing capability plans, tertiary qualifications in STEM, and strong communication skills. They will also have proven ability to cultivate and sustain productive relationships with stakeholders across Government, academia, and industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, advocate, and implement a Capability Plan and benchmarking.
  • Collect and analyse complex data from across Defence capability divisions.
  • Provide advice to senior management on Defence's resources and scientific developments to meet Defence requirements.
  • Anticipate and resolve IS&T capability issues to meet business objectives.
  • Prepare briefs and correspondence on Defence's capacity and capability.

  • Critical thinking and complex idea articulation.
  • Strong communication and written abilities.
  • Proven people management skills and experience in building and leading teams.
  • Business intelligence analysis and experience in briefing senior leaders.
