
Dedicated Youth Diversion Specialist

Job Opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated professional to work in the Northern Metropolitan region as a Youth Diversion Coordinator. This is an ongoing, full-time position that requires a strong understanding of the youth justice system and principles of diversion.
About the Role:
- Attend scheduled sittings of the Criminal Division of the Children's Court to conduct same-day assessments, advise on suitability for diversion, and report back to the court on compliance with directions.
- Consult with young people, their families or carers, prosecutors, and legal representatives to determine suitability for diversion.
- Manage risks identified through assessment by engaging supports to promote completion of a diversion activity.
About You:
- A proven understanding of the youth justice system, particularly the principles and philosophy underpinning relevant legislation.
- An understanding of the principles of diversion and case work, including assessment and interventions relevant to the age, gender, and developmental stage of the young person.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and problem-solving skills to achieve organisational objectives.
- Excellent written communication skills for developing reports, case notes, and other formal documentation.
Key Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Social Work or Diploma in Community Services Work (highly desirable).
- Tertiary qualifications at Diploma level or above (considered only if they include units of study in case management/casework practice and have had supervised practical work placements).
- A current employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card (required prior to commencement of employment). Currency will need to be maintained for the period of employment.
