The Role

The Director of Assurance and Risk Management for the Defence Digital Group will lead a team to provide timely and accurate advice to senior leaders, intervene before risks or issues occur, and report on ANAO and Defence Integrity findings.

You will be responsible for:

  • Providing on-demand advice on risk, assurance audit, and performance management, and supporting the Defence Digital Group with risk, audit, and assurance activities.
  • Establishing an active assurance and internal audit system and being the centralised point to coordinate risk and audit assurance activities for the Defence Digital Group.
  • Enhancing the management of risk within the Defence Digital Group to actively manage operational and enterprise-level risks aligned with Defence priorities.
  • Formulating repeatable and reportable performance measures to ensure that the Defence Digital Group is achieving required outcomes outlined in the Defence Digital Group Business Plan and under the Chief Information Officer's Strategic Accountabilities and Responsibilities.
  • Conducting internal reviews to provide a performance view of all Defence Digital Group operations, including project and program performance.
This is a highly visible and influential role, with the successful candidate required to conduct regular health checks on the Defence Digital Group, report on our success factors, and assist senior leaders in identifying vulnerabilities from emerging risks. Our Ideal Candidate

Our EL 2 Defence Digital Group Director roles exercise independence, have demonstrated excellent leadership skills within a diverse and integrated workforce of capability-focused professionals, and are responsible for achieving complex risk, audit, and assurance deliverables.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • An excellent understanding of Australia's strategic policy.
  • Extensive work experience with risk, audit, and assurance.
  • An understanding of the requirements of risk, audit, and assurance within the public sector (including working with ANAO findings).
  • Exceptional leadership qualities and capabilities to lead a team to achieve outcomes.
  • Outstanding communication, planning, and relationship-building skills to work across all stakeholder levels.
  • Experience providing guidance to senior-level officials.
  • Proven experience of being a trusted advisor to senior Government officials. Most importantly, you must be a strong and flexible leader, and thrive in a dynamic environment.
