About the Role

The Department of Defence of Australia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the position of Director of Quality Assurance. As a key member of the Strategic Priorities Branch, Governance Group, you will be responsible for leading a small team in ensuring the quality of all ministerial advice and correspondence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic oversight of the quality assurance process, ensuring all ministerial submissions, briefs, and correspondence meet the highest standards.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to achieve outcomes that align with Defence's strategic objectives.
  • Build and sustain a high-performing team environment, providing opportunities for professional development and contributing to Defence business outcomes.
  • Implement practices and procedures consistent with Defence's objectives and priorities, making key decisions under pressure when necessary.
About Our Team

The Quality Assurance Unit is a small Canberra-based team within the Governance Group. We work on both the Defence Protected Network and Defence Secret Network. Our ideal candidate will have editorial, journalistic, public relations, or publishing experience, with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in written communication.

Requirements
  • Editorial, journalistic, public relations, or publishing experience.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor high-performing teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure written content adheres to style guides and templates.
  • Ability to work independently with reasonable autonomy, accountability, and flexibility.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
