This position is within the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. The Associate is part of a team assisting a Judge in the day-to-day management of Chambers and Court. The role of the Associate is to manage chambers, provide general administrative support to her Honour and to supervise the Deputy Associate.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of chambers, including responding to inquiries and correspondence.
  • Supervise the work of the Deputy Associate, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Assist the Judge in managing the docket by preparing and managing matters waiting for hearing, ensuring timely and efficient case progression.
  • Maintain the court's case management system, ensuring accuracy and up-to-date information.
  • Prepare and draft orders, judgments, and other court documents, ensuring high-quality and attention to detail.
  • Maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including other courts, government agencies, and legal professionals.
  • Contribute to organisational forums, working to improve working practices and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as required, in support of the Judge and the court.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated legal research, analysis, and drafting skills, with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex information quickly and manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Initiative to work autonomously, taking responsibility for progressing work while also being able to work collaboratively and build positive professional relationships.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology, including electronic legal resources and the court's case management systems.
  • High-level keyboard skills and ability to use relevant software applications, including Microsoft Office and the internet.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities, with a high standard of ethical behaviour.
