About the Role

The Research Associate will provide legal support to judges, focusing on tasks such as judgment proofing, research, and in-court assistance. This role requires adaptability, flexibility, and excellent time management skills.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist judges with tasks including judgment proofing, research, and in-court assistance.
  2. Support judges and chambers staff with complex matters requiring greater assistance.
  3. Act as an associate in a judge's chambers when an associate is absent or conflicted.
  4. Provide support to new judges and chambers staff.
  5. Be adaptable and flexible, with the ability to work with different judges and chambers staff.
  6. Have excellent time management skills and be able to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  7. Be prepared to travel interstate and work from the Court's different registries.
  8. Commit to the position for a period of 18 months.

Requirements

  1. Legal qualification and admission to practice as a practitioner of the High Court and/or the Supreme Court of a State or Territory of Australia.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of the Federal Court's jurisdiction, practices, and procedures.
  3. The ability to carry out legal research, manage workloads, and respond to requests in an accurate and timely manner.
  4. Initiative to work autonomously and take responsibility for progressing work while also being able to work collaboratively.
  5. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including attention to detail and accuracy.
  6. Demonstrated proficiency with technology, including electronic legal resources and the Court's case management systems.
  7. The ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities.
  8. A high standard of ethical behavior.
