Indigenous Education Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Indigenous Education Specialist to join our team. As a Koorie Tutor, you will play a vital role in providing specialized mentoring and tutoring to Koorie students, helping them achieve their academic goals within non-Indigenous specific education programs.

\

Working within the corrections environment, you'll be part of a collaborative team focused on achieving positive outcomes for students. Your commitment will make a meaningful difference in the lives of those you teach and in the broader prison community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized mentoring and tutoring to Koorie students\
  • Develop and implement effective learning strategies to support student success\
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and deliver high-quality educational programs\
  • Maintain accurate records and reports as required\
  • Contribute to the development of a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment\
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge\
  • Perform other related duties as required\

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) or formal qualification in Adult Education\
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous culture and identity\
  • Cultural competence and ability to work effectively with diverse communities\
  • Experience working in and with Indigenous communities (preferably local)\
  • Sound working knowledge and capability strategies to address learning issues that Indigenous students may encounter\
  • Broad knowledge of local Indigenous community issues and ability to model culturally sensitive behaviours and values\
