Job Title: Assistant Watchhouse Officer

Job Description:

  • The primary objective of this role is to provide support services for the administration, supervision and monitoring of persons in custody and visitors to the Watchhouse.
  • Prisoner files and records need to be prepared and maintained accurately.
  • Electronic surveillance and movement control systems must be operated and monitored in line with established procedures.
  • Watchhouse records must be maintained in accordance with Queensland Police Service (QPS) policy and procedure.
  • Assistance will be required in processing persons received into custody in line with QPS policy and procedures.
  • Prisoners' welfare, comfort and security must be supervised and provided for.
  • Records of prisoners' health requirements must be prepared and maintained; medical needs of prisoners must be monitored and appropriate assistance arranged as necessary.
  • Senior staff may require assistance with issues impacting on the overall operational management of the Watchhouse.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Performing watchhouse functions relevant to administration, supervision and monitoring of persons in custody and visitors to the watchhouse.
  • Maintaining accurate prisoner files and records.
  • Operating electronic surveillance and movement control systems in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintaining watchhouse records in line with QPS policy and procedure.
  • Processing persons received into custody in line with QPS policy and procedures.
  • Supervising and providing for the welfare, comfort and security of prisoners.
  • Maintaining records of prisoners' health requirements and monitoring their medical needs as necessary.
  • Providing assistance to senior staff with issues impacting on the overall operational management of the watchhouse.

Role Requirements:

  • A full Class C driver's licence is a mandatory requirement.
  • This position requires wearing an Assistant Watchhouse Officer uniform and adherence to the QPS Code of Dress and Appearance.
  • Shift work rotational roster, including 24-hour and 7-day shifts.
