Melbourne, Victoria, Australia beBeeMentorship Full time $45,000 - $60,000
Empower Youth Through Mentorship

Are you passionate about empowering young people and making a positive impact in their lives? As a Youth Mentor, you will have the opportunity to work with Launch Housing to help individuals experiencing homelessness build sustainable lives.

This role is an excellent chance for those who are committed to youth development and want to make a real difference. By working closely with a designated mentee, you will provide support and guidance to help them achieve their goals and reach their full potential.

About the Opportunity

The Education First Youth Foyers (EFYF) is an innovative program that provides affordable accommodation, education, training, and employment opportunities to young people experiencing homelessness. The EFYF works from an Advantaged Thinking approach, which focuses on identifying, developing, and investing in the skills, capabilities, and assets of these individuals.

As a Youth Mentor, you will be part of a dynamic team that is dedicated to helping young people break the cycle of homelessness and achieve independent and fulfilling lives. You will spend time engaging in social and recreational activities with your mentee, sharing knowledge and experiences, and providing support and guidance as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent, non-judgmental relationships with mentees
  • Help promote self-esteem and identify strengths in mentees
  • Support goal-setting, suggest possible courses of action, and help mentees develop skills
  • Encourage independence and self-reliance instead of dependence
  • Report any concerns to staff if a young person or other client discloses information that places them or someone else at risk

What We're Looking For

  • An understanding of or a commitment to learn the Advantaged Thinking approach to working with young people
  • A generous and positive outlook, with the ability to explore and encourage others to follow their own interests
  • Developed relationship skills, communication skills, and knowledge to engage and communicate in a non-judgmental manner
  • Self-awareness with regard to personal strengths and weaknesses, with the ability to ask for help and support, and set boundaries

Benefits

This role offers a wide range of benefits, including:

  • Flexibility - organize your own timetable
  • A life-changing experience - contribute to ending homelessness in Melbourne and give yourself a sense of fulfillment and purpose
  • A fun and positive environment - meet warm and friendly team members who are here to help
  • Good for your well-being and mental health - research shows that volunteering can help fight stress, loneliness, and depression, and improve your confidence

How to Apply

To apply for this opportunity, please submit a cover letter addressing the key selection criteria and your CV. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, so don't delay in submitting your application. Please contact Miranda Massoud for any information about the role or position description.
