The Australian Defence Force seeks skilled professionals to maintain and operate advanced weapons systems on some of the world's most technologically advanced aircraft.

Key Responsibilities

Aircraft Armament Technicians are responsible for handling and maintaining armament systems, ejection seat systems, air-launched munitions and associated equipment. This includes working with electronic, electrical and mechanical components, as well as preparing and loading various air-launched munitions.

  • Maintaining aircraft weapon systems, including computers, missile launcher racks and other critical components
  • Inspecting, removing and installing aircraft components, such as ammunition and pyrotechnics
  • Performing fault diagnostics and troubleshooting on complex systems
  • Working with explosives (Explosive Ordnance) in a safe and controlled environment
  • Preparing and loading missiles, bombs and torpedoes onto aircraft
Training and Career Progression

The Air Force provides comprehensive training and knowledge to support your career development. As an Aircraft Armament Technician, you'll have opportunities to advance to roles such as Demolition of Explosives Operator, where you'll safely dispose of unexploded or malfunctioned weapons/munitions and pyrotechnics.

With further training, you may also specialise in Improvised Explosive Device Disposal and Explosive Ordnance Disposal.
