Canberra, ACT, Australia Australian Defence Force Full time

Company Overview

The Australian Defence Force is a dynamic organisation that offers challenging and rewarding careers for those who are passionate about technology and innovation. As an Electronics Technician, you will be part of a team that operates, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs advanced technical and military hardware onboard ships and ashore.

Salary

A competitive salary package is offered to successful candidates, providing a stable financial foundation for their career. Based on industry standards and the level of expertise required, we estimate the salary to be around $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

Job Description

As an Electronics Technician, you will specialise in one of four streams: Communications, Sensors, Weapons, or Fire Control. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining internal communication systems, including broadcast systems and telephone systems.
  • Operating external communication systems, such as HF, VHF, UHF radios, and satellite communications.
  • Diagnosing and repairing navigation and long-range air search RADAR systems and displays.
  • Working with underwater systems, including SONAR, torpedo countermeasures, and underwater telephone.
  • Assisting with navigation aids, such as gyro-compasses, inertial navigation systems, and GPS.
  • Electronic warfare systems, including electromagnetic signal interrogation systems.
  • Maintaining weapon systems, including gun, missile, and torpedo systems.
  • Hydraulic systems.
  • Ships' combat and fire control systems.
  • Optical tracking systems.

In addition to your technical duties, you will also perform additional roles and learn new skills to become highly trained and efficient in supporting the whole ship. These may include ship security, firefighting, boarding party, flood repair, line handling, first aid, flight deck duties, replenishment at sea, medical emergency team member, ammunitioning, or ceremonial duties.

It's worth noting that Electronics Technicians do not maintain electrical services. If you are looking for an electrical trade and have an interest in working with electrical power generation or high voltage systems, you may be better suited to employment as a Marine Technician.

Benefits

As a member of the Australian Defence Force, you will enjoy a range of benefits, including:

  • A competitive salary package.
  • Career stability and opportunities for continuous progression.
  • An adventurous lifestyle.
  • The chance to make a difference to Australia.
  • Access to state-of-the-art equipment and training facilities.
