Gateway Network Engineer Job Description

As a skilled Network Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Gateway Project within a secure Defence environment.

Job Overview
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, building, configuring, maintaining, and documenting key components of a standalone Gateway.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement network elements within a standalone Defence network environment.
  • Provide expert-level advice on gateway project architecture, integration, and technical implementation.
  • Deliver Level 3 support for gateway infrastructure, troubleshooting complex issues in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Document network specifications, including detailed enclave designs, schematics, and build instructions.
  • Ensure alignment of network and security standards, policies, and system design.
Requirements and Skills:
  • Operating Systems: Microsoft Server 2019/2022, Red Hat 8/9, Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (OCP)
  • Networking & Security: Cisco & Juniper enterprise solutions; Proxies (Bluecoat ProxySG); Email Security (Cisco ESA/SMA); Fortinet appliances
  • Infrastructure & Security Architecture: Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI); Bastion Hosts; Jump Boxes; Reverse Proxy; NAT; VPN; DNS; Mail Servers; IDS/IPS; SSL termination; F5 BIG-IP; Citrix NetScaler
  • Traffic Engineering: VLAN; VRF; VDC; VR; BGP; Policy-Based Routing (PBR); Port Security; 802.1x NAC; ACLs; IPSec; TrustSec; MacSec
  • Monitoring & Analytics: Splunk, Graylog, Dynatrace, ELK Stack, or equivalent SIEM tools; Active/passive network taps for traffic collection and analysis
Qualifications:
  • Current AGSVA NV2 Security Clearance
  • 15–20 years' ICT experience, ideally within Defence environments
  • Recognised certifications (Red Hat OpenShift Architect/Designer) are highly regarded
