Job Overview">

The role of Mechanical Design Engineer is pivotal in driving innovation and delivering mechanical solutions for slurry analyser systems and associated equipment. As a key member of our diverse engineering team, you will collaborate closely with commercial and sales teams to gather design requirements, provide technical input, and generate specifications that meet client needs.

With a focus on project delivery, you will prepare project-specific engineering documentation, including BOMs, detailed drawings, part specs, and engineering change notices. Ensuring designs are safe, fit for purpose, and cost-effective will require an understanding of appropriate safety regulations, client requirements, and manufacturing capabilities.

As part of the business PPI-Lean Enterprise program, you will actively participate in practical process improvement projects and activities across the site, using proven problem-solving tools to evaluate gaps or misses in performance and establish sustainable corrective and preventative actions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Sales team and customers to gather design requirements, provide technical input, and generate/specify exceptions to specifications.
  • Review sales proposals for technical feasibility and provide suggested improvements/changes where required.
  • Provide engineering drawing packages, specification reviews, data sheets, costings, and other technical requirements to Sales team in a timely manner.
  • Offer solutions consistent with annual vertical market strategic plans.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to meet lead time and quality targets.
Project Delivery
  • Prepare project-specific engineering documentation, including BOMs, detailed drawings, part specs, and engineering change notices.
  • Ensure designs are safe, fit for purpose, and cost-effective.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including structural, fluid flow, and pressure analysis, and conduct FEA and CFD simulations when required to validate and optimize designs.
  • Support the full lifecycle of projects – from initial design to delivery and support.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Production Teams, and Clients to ensure technical compliance and timely execution.
Continuous Improvement
  • Actively participate in practical process improvement projects and activities across the site.
  • Use proven problem-solving tools to evaluate gaps or misses in performance and establish sustainable corrective and preventative actions.
  • Support the site in reaching its financial targets for productivity and identify ways to reduce production costs.
  • Embrace the SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) culture and actively participate in daily management activities (stand-up meetings, Gembas).
  • Be actively engaged in the CAS program to be aware of and identify improvements to customer satisfaction.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 years' work experience in a related mechanical design engineering role.
  • Customer-facing engineering experience in mining or heavy mechanical industry – must be comfortable communicating directly with clients, understanding needs, and presenting solutions.
  • Strong understanding of specification review, project compliance, and ability to read and understand engineering plant drawings and P&ID diagrams.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD platform.
  • Proven capability in engineering calculations, structural and flow-related, and good understanding of mechanical systems design principles for harsh/industrial environments.
  • Experience performing FEA (e.g., stress, vibration) and CFD (e.g., flow path, erosion analysis).
  • End-to-end project delivery experience from design through implementation.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working to engineering and AS/ISO standards, including the ISO 9001:Quality System.
