Domestic Violence Specialist

The role requires a dedicated and passionate professional to provide first contact and court assistance to individuals affected by domestic and family violence, as well as offer intervention services including trauma-informed crisis counselling and risk assessment.

This is an exceptional opportunity for a new or recent social work, human services, or behavioural sciences graduate to gain hands-on experience in the domestic and family violence sector. As a specialist, you will work collaboratively with internal and external workers, mental health support workers, lawyers, and litigation support officers to best support clients presenting with complex and intersecting needs and vulnerabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Attend Brisbane Magistrates Court and the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia to provide first contact and court assistance to people affected by domestic and family violence.
  • Under supervision, provide intervention services, including interviewing clients and providing trauma-informed crisis counselling, risk assessment, safety planning, information advocacy and referrals to external support services for persons who experience and use domestic and family violence.
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external domestic and family violence workers, mental health support workers, lawyers and litigation support officers to best support clients presenting with complex and intersecting needs and vulnerabilities and enhance their safety and access to justice in domestic and family violence matters.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, or Behavioural Sciences or related field.
  • Recent graduates or those with relevant experience in the domestic and family violence sector.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
