Support Worker Role

The role of a support worker involves providing individualised care and support to children and young people residing in OOHC homes.

This includes delivering person-centred support, crisis intervention, and ongoing support, as well as maintaining a safe and welcoming home environment.

Support workers are expected to empower young people to develop skills that enable them to live a good life within their local community.

A Day in the Life
  • Developing independent living skills with young people
  • Supporting young people to achieve their goals
  • Encouraging engagement in local communities through school, community groups etc.
  • Daily care and support, including household duties
  • Transporting young people to and from appointments
  • Facilitating connection to family and culture
  • Collaborating with other professionals to deliver multi-disciplinary care
Requirements
  • A commitment to child safety and wellbeing
  • Understanding of strength-based trauma-informed practice (or willingness to learn)
  • Qualifications in Community Services, Residential Care, Welfare or related areas (Cert IV) (highly regarded)
  • Previous experience in residential therapeutic care and complex trauma (highly regarded)
  • Ability to work flexible rosters, including weekends, evenings, and sleepovers
  • Capacity to obtain required screenings and registrations prior to commencement
  • Willingness to engage in physical activities with young people and use computers/software/programs
  • Holding a current Australian Driver's License
