Job Overview:

Crops are susceptible to insect pests and diseases, impacting yield and industry return. This role plays a crucial part in researching innovative methods to control these issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support research improving crop production and pest management through various experiments
  • Collaborate with experts in the Agriculture & Food Research Unit to achieve project goals
About the Role:

The successful candidate will work closely with the team to test RNAi technology for controlling insect pests and disease progression. They will design and conduct experiments, perform routine laboratory analyses, and maintain laboratory consumables.

Key Duties:
  • Plant transformation and tissue culture to develop novel pest management strategies
  • Maintaining insect populations for controlled experimentation
  • Conducting transient leaf expression assays in Nicotiana benthamiana to assess RNAi efficacy
  • Taking care of plant populations in the glasshouse/growth cabinets to ensure optimal growing conditions

This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication with team members. The ideal candidate will participate in project meetings and contribute to achieving project milestones.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., plant biology, genetics, biochemistry)
  • Proven experience in plant transformation, molecular biology, or related fields
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and techniques
