About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join NSW Health as an Aboriginal Liaison Officer, where you will play a vital role in supporting Aboriginal patients and their families in the clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide advocacy, referrals, and liaison during hospital care and discharge to ensure the best possible outcomes for Aboriginal patients.
  • Develop and maintain links with local Indigenous communities and organisations to promote cultural awareness and understanding.
  • Assist in developing hospital programs to meet Aboriginal-specific health standards and improve health outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Hold or aspire to hold a minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or a minimum Certificate III health qualification in the area of care in which the Aboriginal Health Worker works.
  • Evidence of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity.
  • Ability to assess the needs of Aboriginal patients and advocate on their behalf in the health system.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with clients.
  • Understanding of the management of patient complaints and patient privacy and escalation processes.
  • Competence in the use of databases, electronic documentation, and computer-based administrative systems.
  • Demonstrated skill in the analysis of complex issues, problem solving, formulating new approaches and implementing comprehensive change programs and improvement strategies.
  • Class C Driver's License.
