The Role

The Senior Manager, Motorcycle Product & Underwriting, is a pivotal leadership role in shaping and delivering a leading-edge Motorcycle insurance solution. Key Responsibilities
  • Product Development
    • Lead the Motorcycle Product & Underwriting team to develop new and enhance existing insurance solutions.
    • Develop and implement product strategies, including responses to regulatory requirements.
    • Manage customer-facing documents, including Product Disclosure Statements (PDS), Target Market Determinations (TMD), and other customer documents.
    • Maintain and uphold product-related policies and business rules.
  • Underwriting
    • Manage underwriting rules and guidelines, including the integrity of the underwriting engine.
    • Lead continuous improvement of the pricing/underwriting engine and related IT infrastructure projects.
    • Ensure robustness in the risk selection process to achieve A&G business goals and desired customer outcomes.
  • Portfolio Monitoring
    • Develop, implement, and continuously monitor key performance metrics of the Motorcycle portfolio.
    • Provide oversight and early intervention into the achievement of business objectives, including an early understanding of emerging trends.
  • Business & Change Management
    • Balance operational and strategic priorities, taking into consideration commercial, customer, and regulatory requirements.
    • Define and implement initiatives to improve processes and the overall customer experience.
    • Develop business cases for consideration by the Pricing & Underwriting Committee.
    • Contribute to Project and Change Management leadership, ensuring motorcycle initiatives deliver quality outcomes in an effective and timely manner.
Requirements
  • 7+ years general insurance experience in product development, underwriting, portfolio management, pricing, or claims; Motor/Motorcycle insurance specific experience would be highly regarded.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of short-tail insurance trends and best practices in relation to product features and benefits, underwriting rules, guidelines, and rating methodologies.
  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, e.g., business, economics, commerce, finance, law, actuarial science, and/or professional qualification (e.g., ANZIIF) preferred.
  • Sound numerical and analytical skills to monitor and interpret insurance portfolio data.
  • High commercial acumen and the ability to think strategically, as well as a deep understanding of business processes, operational challenges, and drivers.
  • A track record of success driving performance through accountability for results and a performance culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams, with experience in mentoring, coaching, and developing team members.
  • Innovative and ability to proactively identify and implement technology solutions to meet business requirements today and for the future.
  • A strong track record in successfully delivering change and building highly engaged, diverse teams.
  • Strong knowledge of legislative and compliance frameworks relating to financial services.
  • IT literacy and the ability to learn new systems, including medium to advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
