We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Aboriginal Community Support Worker to join our team within the Housing & Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) Program in Sydney, Australia.

Job Summary:

This is an identified position under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), and we strongly encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have a strong understanding of, and connection to, Aboriginal cultures and communities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop individualised, person-centred support plans that incorporate the identified wellbeing needs, strengths, and goals of customers with a strong focus on cultural safety and responsiveness.
  • Provide ongoing support to customers to improve their independence by assisting with skill development, transport, social activities, supporting with finances, attending appointments, cooking, medication and personal care, as well as other supports as required.
  • Support and encourage customers to participate in activities of their choice, such as social, leisure, sporting, educational, employment activities, etc.
  • Maintain accurate customer records using online systems and electronic databases.
  • Establish and maintain strong, trusting relationships and networks with Aboriginal communities, Elders, community leaders, and stakeholders relevant to supporting Indigenous consumers.
Requirements:
  • Cultural Competence: A demonstrated understanding of, and connection to, Aboriginal cultures and communities.
  • Building Cultural Safety: A commitment to actively contributing to and enhancing culturally safe service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers.
  • Minimum Cert IV in Mental Health, Peer Work, or equivalent industry experience and qualifications.
  • Valid NSW Class C driver's licence, with the ability to drive vehicles in this licence class, including large cars and vans.
  • Willingness to obtain necessary clearances and checks to meet employment criteria prior to commencing.
