Overview

RMIT University's Aviation Academy is seeking a highly skilled Risk and Compliance Professional to lead the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of its safety management system (SMS) and risk management framework.

This critical role requires expertise in safety management systems, aviation accident/incident investigation, and human factors. The successful candidate will have experience in planning and implementing quality, safety, and risk management systems, processes, and techniques to support a SMS.

The ideal candidate will be able to keep abreast of and identify changes in global regulatory frameworks and adapt organisational risk strategies and systems as required. They will have extensive knowledge and experience of managing compliance and regulatory requirements of aviation contracts, including external regulators such as CASA.

The Role:
Safety Management System (SMS) Leadership:

  • Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve RMIT Aviation Academy's SMS.
  • Ensure compliance with national regulators, including CASA and TEQSA.

Risk Management:

  • Implement and maintain effective risk management practices across all areas of the organisation.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks to ensure the continued safe operation of the Aviation Academy.

Audit and Investigation:

  • Conduct audits and investigations to identify and address potential risks and non-compliance issues.
  • Provide expert advice on matters related to risk, quality, and compliance.

Culture and Communication:

  • Foster a culture that supports collaboration, collegiality, compliance, and organisational values.
  • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure effective communication and delivery of business outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated understanding of safety management systems and aviation accident/incident investigation and human factors.
  • Experience in the successful planning and implementation of quality, safety, and risk management systems, processes, and techniques to support a SMS.
  • Proven ability to keep abreast of and identify changes in global regulatory frameworks and adapt organisational risk strategies and systems as required.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of managing compliance and regulatory requirements of aviation contracts, including external regulators such as CASA.
  • Ability to provide strategic guidance, advice, and support on matters relating to risk, quality, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team that contributes, fosters, and supports a culture that is collaborative, collegial, compliant, and aligned with organisational values.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, influence/inspire a safety culture, and develop relationships that aid delivery of business outcomes.
  • Superior attention to detail, coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent written communications skills.

Benefits:

  • $124,474 - $133,367 per annum, plus 17% superannuation.
  • Based at RMIT University's Point Cook campus.
