Job Title: Senior Building Surveyor

We are seeking an experienced Senior Building Surveyor to join our team in Werribee, Victoria. This role involves certifying building permits, ensuring community safety and compliance with the Building Act and Regulations.

  • Certify building plans and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
  • Conduct thorough building inspections and issue notices/orders as necessary
  • Represent the council in legal proceedings related to building regulations
  • Contribute to policy and business plan development, providing expert advice on building matters
  • Manage emergency responses for dangerous buildings, ensuring public safety is paramount
  • Supervise and develop staff within the Building Services Unit, promoting a culture of excellence
  • Participate in and lead relevant projects, leveraging expertise to drive results

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Building Surveying or equivalent, with significant experience in local government or private practice
  • In-depth understanding of the Building Act, Regulations, and Australian Standards, with ability to interpret and apply knowledge effectively
  • Experience in construction methodology and terminology, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs
  • Registered Building Surveyor and Building Inspector with VBA (Unlimited preferred), with current Victorian Driver's Licence
  • Strong knowledge of legislation interpretation, with extensive knowledge of building structures, construction methods, and building practices
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, with strong communication skills and leadership experience
