Advocating for Youth Justice

Caseworkers play a pivotal role in supporting young offenders through the youth justice system. Their expertise lies in providing professional intervention to help these individuals make positive changes in their lives.

  • Mandatory qualifications include a tertiary degree relevant to the field, such as social work, behavioural science or social science, criminology or other recognised degree.
  • Caseworkers must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, allowing them to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes for victims, young offenders, their families, and the community.
  • They are required to prepare and present thorough reports to the Children's Court on behalf of the Chief Executive, conduct pre and post court interviews, and create high-quality presentence reports, affidavits, and other relevant documentation to support optimal outcomes for young people in the justice system.
  • Caseworkers also undertake record keeping and information management tasks to ensure accountability and actively participate in ongoing professional development activities to continually enhance their ability to contribute to organisational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Reduce re-offending using culturally appropriate, collaborative and evidence-based assessment and intervention skills, processes and programs including restorative justice activities.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve positive outcomes for victims, young offenders, their families, and the community.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports to the Children's Court on behalf of the Chief Executive.
  • Conduct pre and post court interviews and create high-quality presentence reports, affidavits, and other relevant documentation.
  • Undertake record keeping and information management tasks to ensure accountability.
