Job Summary

The Department of Education, Western Australia is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the role of School Attendance Officer. This position is responsible for assisting the school community in improving student engagement and attendance in educational programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with school students, staff, parents, and the community to identify causes of absenteeism and develop strategies to support students and families in overcoming these challenges.
  • Make home visits and attend interagency meetings to promote student attendance and provide support to students and families.
  • Establish systems and processes to increase school attendance and accountability for non-attendance.
  • Develop and implement individual student attendance improvement plans and participate in collaborative case conferences and attendance panels to improve student attendance, participation, and retention.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated sound knowledge of current trends and issues related to attendance and education within a local community.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships and work effectively with individuals or small groups of students experiencing attendance-related difficulties.
  • Demonstrated sound research and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify appropriate solutions to problems affecting student attendance.
  • Demonstrated sound interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, particularly in a team environment.
