Building Inspector Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Building Inspector to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with building legislation, codes, and standards. They will conduct building inspections, issue inspection notices and orders, and provide on-site advice and direction to builders, subcontractors, and property owners.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the legislation relevant to the building industry.
  • Ability to interpret legislation, policies and apply precedents.
  • Building Inspector/Surveyor qualification including Registration as a Building Practitioner with the Building & Plumbing Commission, in the category of Building Inspector Unlimited, is desirable.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring compliance with building legislation, codes, and standards.
  • Conducting building inspections in response to complaints and departmental requests.
  • Issuing and following up on inspection notices and orders.
  • Providing on-site advice and direction to builders, subcontractors, and property owners.
  • Assisting in assessing various permit applications (e.g. Building, Hoarding, POPE).
  • Participating in after-hours callouts on a rostered basis.
