
Emergency Support Specialist

The role of an auxiliary firefighter is critical in supporting emergency response efforts.
Key responsibilities include:
- Responding to fire and other emergency incidents as part of a team
- Promoting community safety and emergency preparedness through education activities
- Developing and maintaining competencies through regular drills and training courses
Auxiliary firefighters are expected to commit to attending 50% of calls as a day worker with routine hours or 30% of calls as a shift worker with non-routine hours. They must also attend 75% of regular drill and training sessions and obtain an MRV licence within 12 months of employment.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be able to work effectively in a team environment, and be committed to ongoing skills acquisition and maintenance.
Key accountabilities include:
- As a member of a team, respond to fire and other emergency incidents
- Promote community safety and emergency preparedness by contributing to community education activities
- Develop and maintain competencies by actively participating in regular drills and other relevant training courses provided by the QFES to ensure safety and effectiveness on the fire ground
