About the Office of the National Data Commissioner

The Office of the National Data Commissioner (ONDC) is a key agency within the Australian Government, responsible for implementing the Data Availability and Transparency Act 2022. This legislation establishes a new, best practice scheme for sharing Australian Government data, underpinned by strong safeguards and simplified, efficient processes.

Our Mission

We are seeking candidates to join our team in implementing this scheme, working closely with partners within and outside the APS to help shape new opportunities to safely and securely share Australian Government data for public benefit. This includes working with Commonwealth, State and Territory government bodies as well as Australian universities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Foster partnerships within and outside of government to provide advice and guidance on data sharing opportunities and regulate the Scheme.
  • Assess applications from participating entities against a range of expected characteristics, including data management and governance policies and practices, ability to minimize the risk of unauthorized access or use, and the skills and capability of their staff.
  • Document and write up assessments for decision by the National Data Commissioner.

We offer a family-friendly environment with flexible working hours and a mix of working from home and from the office arrangements. Remote working arrangements may be considered for exceptional candidates. Over 50 percent of the Office of the National Data Commissioner workforce has caring responsibilities.

Eligibility and Security Clearance

Successful applicants will be required to undergo the process to obtain and maintain, or continue to hold the required security clearance level for the role as indicated in the downloadable job pack. All Finance staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance prior to commencement.
