Senior Lawyer Role

This is a key position for an experienced lawyer to provide high-quality legal assistance to women and non-binary individuals in the Greater Darwin region.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a range of services, including:

  • Providing expert legal advice and casework services, including court representation, in areas such as family, migration and civil law.
  • Developing and maintaining strong technical expertise in specialist practice areas, including domestic, family and sexual violence.

In addition, the Senior Lawyer will play a crucial role in:

  • Community legal education and law reform initiatives, including planning and delivering workshops and associated materials.
  • Stakeholder engagement and networking, representing the organization in public forums and developing relationships with key stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Admission to practice/eligibility to apply for an unrestricted practicing certificate in the Northern Territory.
  • A minimum of five years' post-admission experience in Migration, Family and/or Civil Law, with priority given to experience in Family Law and domestic, family and sexual violence.

Essential selection criteria include:

  • An understanding of legal issues facing women in the Northern Territory, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, culturally and linguistically diverse women, migrant women, and women experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence.
  • A commitment to promoting the interests of women and ability to work in a trauma-informed framework.
