Senior Lawyer Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Lawyer to provide high-quality legal assistance, including legal advice, casework, and representation, to women and non-binary individuals in the Greater Darwin region.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Providing expert legal advice and casework services, including court representation, to clients experiencing domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV) and other forms of discrimination and abuse.
  2. Developing and maintaining a strong level of technical competence in family law, DFSV, and civil law practice areas, with a focus on trauma-informed best practices.
  3. Mentoring and supervising less experienced legal practitioners in specified legal matters and areas of law.
  4. Representing the service in public forums, developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, and undertaking community outreach services.
  5. Accurately capturing legal and non-legal service data, attending staff meetings, participating in performance discussions, and undertaking ongoing professional development.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
  1. Admitted to practice/eligible to apply for an unrestricted practicing certificate in the Northern Territory.
  2. A minimum of five years' post-admission experience in migration, family, and/or civil law, with priority given to experience in family law and DFSV.

  • An understanding of legal issues facing women in the Northern Territory, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, culturally and linguistically diverse women, migrant women, and women experiencing DFSV.
  • A commitment to promoting the interests of women and working within a trauma-informed framework.
  • Ability to provide high-quality legal advice and casework services, interact as an efficient team member, and use initiative while under supervision.
  • High-level verbal and written communication skills, proven initiative, and organizational abilities, including time management skills and the ability to prioritize in a pressured environment.
